Annual Event
Hanging Basket Sale: Join us at Canadian Tire for our 15th annual Hanging Basket Sale! There will be new selections every day of beautiful flowers to choose from with shipments all day long. The Hanging Basket Sale takes place May 16th to 20th. Baskets will be $12.99 and for every basket sold Canadian Tire donates $1 to the library. We want to thank Dale and Cathy Cousins for their continuous support of the library. This year our donation will go towards expanding our collection of non-traditional circulating items. Have something cool you want to see at the library, let us know!
Adult Programs and Events
Writer’s Workshop
Elevate your writing skills on Tuesday, May 14th from 6-8pm. Award winning author Cindy Matthews will be in the Saugeen Room to help take your writing abilities to the next level. Cindy is a local author of the short story collection Took you so long and The Roach Family and other Stories. All levels welcome. Cost $15. Register at the Library.
Clean and Green series
This series focuses on being more environmentally conscious. With presentations focusing on being more sustainable, homeopathic and natural. Past workshops have included creating natural tonics and growing your own garden. We are exploring topics of growing your own food, foraging, gathering seeds and more. Let us know if you have a specific interest you want to see included!
Clean & Green: Foraging for Beginners
Come to the library on Earth day to learn how to get the most from Mother Nature. Monday, April 22 at 6:30pm we will be having Jess Marin of the Bohemian Farm coming to teach us all about the dos and don’ts of foraging. Join us in the Saugeen room to learn how to identify basic plants and begin your foraging journey safely. Cost is $2, Register at the Library today.
Older and Wiser series
This series of presentations is geared to our older generation. While anyone can attend, these subjects will be tailored to those who have become wiser through experience. Subjects such as keeping your mind sharp, palliative care, elder abuse and senior nutrition are a few we explore here at the Library
Memory Lane: Adult Storytime: Come to the Library on the Second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 for an adult storytime. This unique experience gives an opportunity for those suffering from memory loss and their caregivers to come for a read aloud followed by an activity.
Adulting
Interactive and hands on, this series is geared to our new and seasoned adults. It focuses on teaching valuable life skills and exploring those subjects that everyone should know but not everyone has been taught. Subjects such as budgeting, taxes, job skills, mental health and more.
Repair and Recovery: Steps to Wellness
Come to the Saugeen Room Tuesday, May 7th at 6pm to learn how to balance your physical and mental well being. Ruth Linnen, Registered Psychotherapist, will be here to teach you how to set boundaries and various steps to self care in today’s stressful world. Register for free at the Library.
Becoming a More Confident You!
Join us Tuesday May 21st from 6:30-8:00pm in the Saugeen room to learn how to build your self confidence and self esteem. Sebastien from Employment Options will be here to help guide you to becoming a more confident you! Register at the Library today!

Do you need help learning how to use a computer or tablet? There’s a free library service for that! We offer individual lessons with our tech helper. Contact the library to get started.

Stitch & Sip
Join us at our Drop in Crochet and Knitting Group. Come to the newspaper area to socialize and do your fiber arts the Second Saturday of each month. All skill levels are welcome. Please bring your own supplies. We will have a limited amount of supplies available for those wishing to learn as well as someone who can instruct. Refreshments provided.
English as a Second Language (ESL) social circle
Join us the Last Saturday of the month from 1:30-3pm we will be hosting an ESL social circle. Come practice conversational English in a casual group setting with qualified teachers. The Library will be partnering with Employment Options and the Grey Bruce Newcomer Immigrant Women Collective to help guide newcomers to be more confident in their English language skills
Board Game Drop-in
Looking for something to do on Saturday afternoons? Saturdays are Board Game Drop-in day. Come in and join community members to play Cribbage or Chess. The library will provide the board (or bring your own). Stop by the library from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturdays and see who is up for a casual game.
Mahjongg
Drop in to play this exciting and addictive Chinese tile game at the library!
Players of all levels are welcome to join.
This group meets Thursdays at 1 pm.
Writer’s Group
Are you interested in writing? The Hanover Public Library hosts a Writer’s Group at 1:30 pm on the first Monday of every month in the Local History room.
This group is designed to get your creative juices flowing! The group practices writing using prompts, shares stories, and can even provide feedback on your writing if you’re interested. Writers of all levels are welcome, whether you’re just starting out or have been writing for years.
The group also hosts the occasional professional writer who shares their expertise with members.

Kid’s Programs and Events
Storytime
Join Stephanie in the Community Hall on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am for songs, stories, and a craft!
Lego Club
Join us on the Last Wednesday of every month from 4pm to 5:30pm in the Children’s area to create Lego masterpieces! A drop-in event for caregivers and children between 0 and 12.
Teen Programs
Teen Craft: Keychain Crazy!
Join Stephanie in the library after hours for a fun Teen Craft night! On Friday, May 17th, come to the library for crafts and snacks from 7:00 – 8:30pm. For Ages 13-18. Register at the library, $5.
