Branch Manager

The Hanover Public Library is seeking a Branch Manager to join our team. As a busy library serving the rural town of Hanover in the Grey Bruce area, we are looking for a candidate who is passionate about teamwork, open communication and engaging staff as well as the community. You will work with a friendly and supportive team providing excellent public library services. Your role includes assisting the CEO with managing staff and providing administrative support to the Board.  We are seeking a qualified individual who has experience in leading a team and who is excited about work place culture.  Strong organization and administrative skills are required to maintain procedures, policies, statistics, staff schedules and board minutes.  Flexibility to be able to perform your duties as well as support the library staff is required. Our single site library offers flexible shifts, staff input to strategic direction and events, a variety of duties and a friendly team. This position is full time with OMERS pension plan and other benefits available.

Responsibilities

  • Support the CEO in the coordination of day-to-day branch activities and operations
  • Maintain procedures and policies for the library
  • Creates an engaging and supportive workplace for the library team
  • Assists with budgeting and finances of the library, including cash deposits, grant applications, fundraising efforts etc
  • Coordinates and oversees a program or service such as the homebound service
  • Maintains the Tourism Department for the Town of Hanover
  • Provide circulation, reference, research and technical assistance to library patrons, including readers’ advisory and support for the public using computers and the Internet
  • Stay up-to-date with current trends and best practices in library services and technology
  • Other duties in support of the library as they arise

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a library position
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership or management position
  • Minimum 5 years in a customer service position

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills for public service interactions and staff leadership
  • Customer service skills including empathy, patience, adaptability, persuasiveness, positive attitude and calmness
  • Ability to establish and maintain friendly and effective working relationships with customers, employees, volunteers, community groups and other agencies
  • Understanding of human resources principles and the ability to mediate effectively
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, social media networks and email
  • Computer skills sufficient to learn and perform the functions of the automated Library system
  • Effective numeracy skills and familiarity with spreadsheets
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Self-motivation and ability to exercise independent judgement
  • Wide range of reading interests and ability to assess and guide people’s reading development
  • Problem solving skills
  • Organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Understanding of public library operational processes and systems
  • The Library will require a current Vulnerable Sector Screening from the successful applicant

Remuneration

Wage range: $29.03/hr to $33.76/hr as per the current Town of Hanover Salary Grid, Group 9
